Check out Grant's recent interview with Mystic Mag Magazine! 'Encounters with Spirit'
MysticMag chats with Grant Harris – a medium – with a journey filled with incredible experiences and heartfelt connections with the spirit world. Mediumship became a calling in Grant’s life after two significant events: a near-death accident involving a bus at the age of 12 and a visit from his nephew in spirit years later. Spirit communicates with Grant using all his senses, bringing forth messages in diverse ways, from visions to emotions and even physical sensations.
I began seeing visions and spiritual visitations from a very young age. One of my first encounters was with my nephew who had passed away, and these experiences kept repeating. One night I actually went over to the vision and reached out to my nephew. My hand went straight through him.
I sought guidance at a spiritualist church, but initially felt skeptical about the readings, and felt that there were quite a few charlatans out there. However, I met a medium named Jean who eventually became my mentor and explained that I had the ability to connect with the spirit world. Encouraged by her, I joined a development class and started exploring my abilities further. After several years of practicing in open circles and attending spiritual events, I took a job in a prison, but it made me realize that my true calling was in being a medium. So, I decided to fully embrace my gift and started doing readings full-time, which has been my passion for the last five years.
I have several ways of receiving messages from spirits, and my favorite method is when they speak to me directly. It’s like having a conversation with anyone else, and I can hear their words clearly. Another way I receive information is through visions, which are best described as being on a TV screen or a vision right in front of my face. These visions show me events and experiences from the spirits’ lives, such as past memories or events that took place. Sometimes, I also get feelings and sensations related to their experiences. For example, if I feel a pain in my head, it could be an indication of how they passed away. Additionally, I may see things being written on a piece of paper, which is another way spirits communicate with me. These methods of sensing and receiving information have become familiar to me, and I’ve learned to interpret and understand the messages they convey.
What is your perspective on the spirit world? How do you perceive its presence and connection to our everyday lives?
For me, the spirit world is always present and interconnected with our reality. I don’t believe it’s something separate or in another dimension. Instead, I see it as a continuous flow of energy where spirits of our loved ones reside after their physical bodies are no longer here. I often experience their presence during readings and demonstrations, and they show themselves through various signs and messages. I believe they are constantly around us, even though we may not be able to see them with our physical eyes. It’s a profound connection that goes beyond the confines of time and space, and it has enriched my perception of the world around me.
One of the things I love most about my job is the incredible feedback and reactions from people when they receive a message. It brings a sense of comfort and closure to them, and witnessing that is truly heartwarming. Recently, there was a lady who had been waiting over 30 years to hear from her husband in spirit, and when he finally came through during a session, she expressed her gratitude, saying it felt like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. Providing this collaborative comfort and closure is deeply fulfilling.
Besides the rewarding work itself, I also cherish the fantastic team I work with. We’ve been together for about four years, and it feels like a small family. The positive energy and support we have among us create a wonderful work environment, and I genuinely look forward to going to work each day. It’s this camaraderie and the constant enjoyment we share in what we do that keeps me going and loving my job.
Absolutely, connecting with spirit brings all sorts of characters and messages, and some of them are full of laughs! It’s incredible how spirits can maintain their personalities and sense of humor even in the afterlife. During readings and events, I often hear them talking to me in their own unique ways, and they can be quite sarcastic and witty. One time, a woman’s husband came through, and he had been known for his antics and jokes while alive. He couldn’t resist cracking a joke during the reading, and the audience loved it!
Having spent many years doing this work, I’ve learned how to bring a stage presence that lightens the atmosphere and helps people relax. It’s essential to create a positive and comfortable space for those who may be grieving or feeling vulnerable. I aim to strike a balance between humor and seriousness, ensuring that the messages are delivered respectfully while also bringing some laughter to the audience.
Joan Rivers once said that laughter is like a vacation from life’s challenges, and I believe in the power of humor to uplift people’s spirits. However, I’m always mindful of the context and sensitive to the emotions of those I’m reading for. There’s a time and place for laughter, and I ensure that the messages are delivered with care and respect. Engaging with a large audience can be a challenge, and humor helps keep the energy high and the atmosphere engaging. Ultimately, it’s about providing comfort, closure, and healing through the messages from spirit, while also creating a positive and uplifting experience for everyone present.
